A Light Shines in the Darkness (and the Darkness has Not Overcome it)
Light and Dark are often reoccurring themes in my work and in life. It often seems like a power struggle; a commentary on good and bad; an extinguishing. I don’t think this necessarily has to be the case all of the time. I think it’s important to acknowledge that light and dark have equal beauty and together they make some of the most wonderful works of art.

When opposites come together the contrast created causes a vibrancy and an energy that without each other would be flat. Take complementary colors. Opposites on the color wheel. They reside directly across from each other- as far apart as possible on a wheel. When put next to each other, they cause the other to appear vibrating, glowing with an intensity that when placed next to any other color wouldn’t quite equate the same magnitude. As if they cannot contain all that they are.

When a light shines in the darkness the darkness doesn’t overcome it, it enhances it and light in return adds greater depth to the darkness. Together they give each other so much more than they would have found on their own.

So it also is I believe, with people.

🕯 John 1:5 the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness does not overcome it
