What a liberating adventure this painting has been. This canvas has been painted over three times before becoming Free Flight.
Its title is derived from Walt Whitman’s poem “A Clear Midnight.” This poem describes a soul released back into the universe. Ralph Waldo Emerson about this poem has written, “Here we find ourselves, suddenly, not in a critical speculation, but in a holy place, and should go very warily and reverently.”
About death, about freedom, about rest.
I find freedom and understanding here.
“This is thy hour, O Soul, thy free flight into the wordless, / Away from books, away from art, the day erases, the lesson done, / Thee fully forth emerging, silent, gazing, pondering the themes / thou lovest best, / Night, sleep, death and the stars”
Free Flight Into The Wordless is an escape for me. A release of tension, it draws me closer to the heavens, closer to God, to purpose and inward to myself.
Free Flight is exactly what it says it is. It is a release of the soul, a Flight into feeling, color, passion and love. It is a safe place that knows no bounds.
