This painting was never supposed to be made. It started as other paintings with that had varying color and unknown intentions.
Frustrated and tired of trying to make it bend to my will, I got out my white gesso and started washing out everything they had been. Halfway through I looked at it as you see them now and was

quieted.

It is complete by remaining incomplete. Its lesson is in the middle of its process.
Underneath the surface of most of my paintings is a layer of textures, thick strokes and small mounds of paint. These are the things that give my work life and movement. While creating “Starting Over” its underlying layers surfaced with insurmountable noise. I had to leave it here.

This piece is a reminder to be careful as you grow and change and mold into new things. Take care of those underlying layers. They find a way to surface and become a foundation for all that we can and will be.

I am so thankful for my family and my faith.
Not too long ago, I lost myself. I made bad, irresponsible and reckless decisions. I was disrespectful to everyone I loved the most.
One morning I woke up, got on my knees and prayed, really prayed for the first time in over 2 years. I wanted to wash away everything I had become. I wanted to start over.
Stripped down to the bare bones of who I knew I was, I began a life of walking closer to God, closer to Art and closer to love.
Suspended between what they were and what they will be, “Starting Over” and “Down to the Core” stand for peace amidst chaos, important growing pains and content in uncertainty.

I hope you all look at these and feel understood and accepted.
