The Great Mystery of Godliness
18×24 oil painting on paper with gold metal leaf, framed (22×28)
“Beyond all question, the mystery from which true godliness springs is great:
He appeared in the flesh,
was vindicated by the Spirit,
was seen by angels,
was preached among the nations,
was believed on in the world,
was taken up in glory.”
1 Timothy 3:16

this piece explored the immense depth and mysteriousness of Christ. Paul wrote a short poem in 1 Timothy where he describes Christ in six lines. Within the imagery of each line, the depiction of Christ grows and expands. It begins with a very personal and internal experience — flesh and spirit. As the verse continues, the image of Christ begins to incorporate the entire world - its expands upward ending in complete glory. This painting is constantly moving. Each stroke carries the eye into another, its circulating and expanding while getting ever deeper and more mysterious.
