The Mess of Me
24” x 36” original oil painting on canvas with gold leaf | handmade wood frame
“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O LORD, my [firm, impenetrable] Rock and my Redeemer.” Psalm 19:14
I pray that, through all my journeys and the mended pieces of my heart, that this painting serves you with the same love and Grace I’ve been undeservedly given.

The prayer contained within this painting represents the desperate desire for my heart and my actions to exist in deep gratitude for the Grace I myself have received. I find myself, like the psalmist, overwhelmed at the majesty and beauty of the world around me. How can the whole mess of me hope to contribute anything of meaning to this good world?
This piece uses soft cool colors to reflect my quiet meditations on this beautiful psalm. The colors inspire peace and mindfulness. The contrasting textures from brush and palette knife speak to the unpredictable and often treacherous nature of human emotion. I am imperfect, life is a struggle, I am made up of a million tiny details and still, I have found a firm foundation of love and compassion.
